HAMA celebrates 1st anniversary onboard AIDA IV

The Hellenic Arab Maritime Academy (HAMA)celebrated the 1st anniversary of its establishment by holding a reception on Monday August 6, onboard the training ship AIDA IV, at the port of Piraeus.

Dr. Captain Abdelhamid Al Kady, Dean of the See Training Institute, Dr. Captain Ahmed Youssef, Director of International Forum for Maritime Transport of AASTMT and Mr. Harris Geronikolas, President of the Arab Hellenic Chamber of Commerce & Development, greeted invitees with welcome speeches.

The speakers underlined the importance of the establishment and highly successful operation of the HAMA, which for a second consecutive year offers quality, academic studies at its Maritime Academy facilities to Greeks and foreign students.

During the event, Dr. Captain Abdelhamid Al Kady, presented awards to the honorable guests and Mrs. Argyro Manoli, HAMA’s Director of Academic Programs, presented awards to the Academy’s outstanding first-year students Konstantinos Skordalis -from the Navigation Department and Nikolaos Koutsoumpas -from the Marine Engineering Department.

The list of the honorable guests included Rear Admiral of the Hellenic Coast Guard, Nikolaos Arbouniotis, Captain Agisilaos Anastasakos, Director for Shipping Hellenic Coast Guard Headquarters Ministry of Maritime Affairs & Insular Policy,

Mr. Mohamed El-Ghazawy, Charge d’ Affaires, Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Mr. Hindreen Mustafa, Charge d’ Affaires Embassy of the Republic of Iraq, Mr. Jacob Musa, Consul of Embassy of Nigeria, the General Secretary and the Vice President of the Arab-Hellenic Chamber Mr. Rashad Mabger and Mr. Magdi Halawani respectively and Mr. Vassilios Terzis, 1st Vice President of the Hellenic Shortsea Shipowners Association.

Dozen more guests from the maritime and shipping sector attended the reception including shipowners and representatives of shipping companies, shipping agencies, classification societies, shipping registries, maritime lawyers and insurance agencies.

All guests toured on AIDA IV, the first private training vessel in Europe, funded by the Egyptian Government and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT). Onboard AIDA IV students from AASTMT and HAMA receive a comprehensive training acquiring theoretical and practical knowledge in a wide-ranging educational spectrum such as maritime technology, marine engineering, electrical engineering, navigation, safety and security, cargo operations, leadership and management.
